On July 4, 2025, at the World Peace Forum held in Beijing, Wu Xinbo, Director of the Center for American Studies at Fudan University, warned, "It is urgent to prepare for the autumn summit meeting. Time is running out." During a phone summit in June, the U.S. and China confirmed a trade truce, showing progress with the resumption of rare earth exports and the easing of some U.S. export restrictions. However, dialogue in the diplomatic and security fields remains stagnant. The White House is inquiring with business representatives about accompanying them to China, but the official schedule is yet to be determined. On social media, a post by the Chinese embassy claiming that the phone call was "at the request of the Trump side" has gone viral, intensifying debates over "who holds the initiative." Amidst the emergence of a proposal for a visit to China in conjunction with the APEC meeting in South Korea in the fall, tensions over Taiwan and the South China Sea continue to smolder, leaving the realization of the meeting uncertain.
