Why has X become "iOS-centric": Android falters, Grok takes over - The double whammy of X's subscription slowdown

Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) experienced a significant decline in new installations on Android, leading to a 26% year-over-year decrease in total mobile downloads in July. Particularly on Google Play, downloads dropped by 44% (compared to a 49% decrease in June), while iOS saw a contrasting 15% increase. Mobile revenue from subscriptions also fell to $16.9 million in July, down from $18.8 million in March, although there was a slight increase from $16.8 million in June. The instability and frequent crashes of the Android app have been cited as factors, and X's new product head, Nikita Bier, is currently seeking an "Android Dream Team." Additionally, the separation of the AI "Grok" into an independent app suggests that X Premium subscriptions aimed at AI might be migrating. Competitor Meta's Threads is closing in on X in terms of mobile DAUs. X urgently needs to rebuild its Android platform and redefine the value of its subscriptions.
