According to a survey of young people in Germany (ages 14-20, n=1,046), 69% spend more than two hours a day on social media, with 27% spending more than five hours. Additionally, 61% admit to "putting off other important things," and 29% report strong feelings of digital stress and other burdens. Girls experience comparison and exclusion more frequently (52% vs 31%). On the other hand, young people are taking self-measures such as turning off notifications (69%) and using "Do Not Disturb" mode (51%). Sixty percent support banning mobile phones in classrooms. Over 80% desire an expansion of media education, yet 53% of households lack clear rules, and 51% of schools do not provide social media education. There is a consensus emerging towards "support over prohibition," highlighting the need for focused design in educational settings, the establishment of permanent consultation services, and the creation of rules within the home environment.
