Fine Particles That Accelerate Aging: Does the Brain Age with Air? — Deciphering the "Invisible Risk" of Air Pollution and Dementia

Based on reports from a U.S. newspaper (November 1, 2025), the latest research examines the link between pollutants and dementia. An autopsy study in JAMA Neurology suggests that exposure to PM2.5 may increase Alzheimer's pathology and severity, while a review in Lancet Planetary Health indicates a significant association between PM2.5 and dementia risk. Additionally, the link with Lewy body dementia is also strengthening. Public health reports estimate that over a quarter of dementia-related deaths in 2023 were attributable to air pollution. In addition to individual measures such as wearing masks, ventilation, and air purification, policy responses are essential, including reducing emissions from transportation, power generation, and wood burning.
